Life @ DoubleCloud as Head of Support

Hi, my name’s Dean and I’m Head of Support here at DoubleCloud.

I started back in December and the transition couldn’t have been easier. The onboarding team let me know what to expect before I even started, with people from HR and IT all reaching out to make sure I had everything I needed.

Before DoubleCloud it feels like I’ve spent most of the 21st century building and then leading technical departments or businesses for open-source databases.

Specifically at MySQL (before and after the Sun and Oracle acquisitions), MariaDB and later as the product manager for support subscription services at Percona.

Recently however I’ve been looking for a new challenge.

I wanted what I did to have a major impact on, well everything! That’s why I started looking at start-ups and chose DoubleCloud.

The problems you get to solve are more interesting and the customers are always just as excited as you are.

That’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve found since working here… the people.

It doesn’t matter if it’s our customers or my colleagues, everyone’s excited to be involved in what we’re trying to achieve.

Outside of work you can almost always find me with my nose buried in a book. Unless I’m playing guitar. Or programming something completely random just for the fun of it. Or watching computer engines play chess (a weird hobby of mine). Or riding my motorcycle. Or, or, or… (I like to keep busy!)

Finally, to round off this little bio about myself, the marketing team thought it would be fun to ask me if I could arrange a dinner party and invite any three people (alive or dead) who would it be and why?

Tough question but after some serious thought I decided to invite Randy Rhoads so I could play some guitar with him and Edgar Allan Poe as everyone likes telling and listening to stories at dinner parties and who could tell a better story than him, right?

My final guest would have to be Albert Einstein so I could interrogate him over dinner with thousands of annoying physics questions and thoughts I have.
